The thickness depends on the water temperature: 3 mm for warm water (25°C+), 5 mm for temperate water (18–24°C), and 7 mm for cold water (<18°C). The colder the water, the thicker the insulation should be.
Choose a balaclava with a smooth collar or integrated skirt to slip under the wetsuit joint. This limits the circulation of cold water inside and improves the seal.
